Bodybuilding

Bodybuilding is all about building an aesthetically pleasing physique. Popularised in the 1970s with the documentary Pumping Iron featuring Arnold Scwharzenegger, bodybuilding is growing not just as a sport but a way of life for many young athletes today. It combines a healthy diet, rest and progressive resistance training which has many benefits in today's hectic lifestyle.

The bodybuilding ideal is large well proportioned muscles combined with very low body fat - the classic v-taper shape. Professional bodybuilders have been getting bigger and bigger over the years and currently the biggest bodybuilders in the world are over the 300 lb mark in off season weight.

The following text from bodybuilding.com is a good definition about what the bodybuilding lifestyle is about:

"As a bodybuilder, you are constantly trying to define yourself. Continually improving on previous definitions of yourself or re-defining areas of a particular interest. Having a complete definition is our goal. We live for it. We strive to have it. That one extra striation or separation. When we succeed at achieving that definition, we are overwhelmed with a profound sense of accomplishment. Shortly after the experience, we move on to the next defining moment. As we move to define ourselves, we find that there are so many definitions that apply to our "state of mind" at any given moment."

fitness.uk.net specialise in bodybuilding training and can work with you whether you wish gain muscle mass, increase muscle definition and conditioning or diet in preparation for shows.

fitness.uk.net advises that bodybuilders follow the WABBA workload in their training programmes:

  • Use 70-85% of your 1 rep maximum weight

  • Use 4-6 sets (1 warm-up set)

  • Use a 12-8 descending rep range
