Weight Loss

Weight loss is one of the primary reasons that people of all ages turn to the gym. Obesity is a huge problem in modern society and is having a detrimental effect on health. Even with all the latest research at and scientific information, the best answer to this problem is combining a healthy diet and exercise program. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of diets and supplements available today all advertising they will help you lose weight. In most cases these diets will all work - up to a point. Most diets will help you lose weight but for one reason or another you will either hit a plateau which you cannot get past or the weight will go back on. The fitness.uk.net approach to weight loss is basically a logical common sense approach which is tried and tested. It is designed to not only help you lose weight but to change your body composition and keep weight off for good.

To lose one pound of weight it is generally accepted you need to burn off 3500 calories. Cardiovascular work such as using a treadmill or rowing machines etc is a good way of burning extra calories, however the body adapts to aerobic exercise becoming energy efficient. After several weeks of cardio work the body starts to get used to aerobic exercise and adapts by performing the same work but using less calories to do the work. Also after a further period of cardiovascular training your body adapts further and will release fewer enzymes and hormones that aid the liberation of fatty acid. In practical terms this is hitting a plateau with your weight loss. Therefore the best way to lose weight and increase your metabolism is to make resistance training the primary mode of exercise in conjunction with cardio work and a nutrition plan that inhibits fat storage. It does not have to be intensive work. People who are not used to a gym should start out very slowly and using light weights progressing at their own pace - this will work wonders for weight loss. This is because resistance training increases muscle mass which increases your basal metabolism (the amount of calories you burn at rest) and affects your potential to become lean.
